The following are a few load-outs for personal carry while on the hill that are what I consider to be need-to-have and nice-to-have gear. I’ve divided the gear for BLS and ALS providers, as scope of practice is different. The equipment listed here is my opinion. I’d like to hear yours.

Regardless of level of practice, the key is to consider the things that you want to have on your person to address threats to life as well as common concerns. Many things can arrive to you within 15-20 minutes of calling for them, but 15 minutes can be a really long time when you’re the only one caring for a dying patient.

Primary concerns are PPE, airway management, administration of CPR, and control of major bleeding.
